Aerith was born to Ifalna and Gast Faremis, a professor of histories and such 19 years ago. Though, Aerith never really got to know her father, because not long after she was born, her father was murdered and her and her mom taken by some scientist gone mad. He somehow knew of Aerith and her mother's lineage, and focused most of his experimenting on her mother. She was never quite able to figure out just what he was doing, but she was still to young to under stand really. Her mother during their time in captivity told her about her heritage and all.

After about 5 years, her mom was able to take her and escape, and they never once looked back. Aerith never found out what happened to that scientist, only that what he had been doing took it's toll on her mother. They were found by another woman that was a bit older then her mom, named Elmyra Gainsborough, who took them in and did her best to help and care for them both. But when it came down to it, her mother was just in too poor condition, and before she passed away, Elmyra agreed to take care of Aerith. So from that point on, her last name was Gainsborough, and Elmyra raised her on her own as if she were her own daughter.

Where she lived was not the greatest place. Hardly anything grew there,many blaming it on a near-by power plant, and just over all was not that great. But as a little girl, she wandered into a church that had been abandoned for some time, and despite the fact nothing seemed able to grow, decided to plant some flowers there just to try. To elmyra's amazement, the few she planted began to actually grow, and it wasn't long considering the area of missing floorboards had become a whole patch of flowers. But things were still sort of rough for Elmyra, so she started to sell flowers outside the church, though there wasn't much in sales. When Elmyra asked why she chose there and all, Aerith replied "I don't like being under the sky". She had always seemed to rush to get from place to place, but Elmyra never realized it was something like that. She knew that Aerith was different though, she she helped with a solution. They took some more of the floor boards out (also to help expand where the flowers could grow), and built a cart, and put an umbrella over it to shield it and her.

She of course had to keep up with school work, which she managed because she was a fairly bright girl, and when she went to sell flowers, with the cart and and being able to move, she sold plenty more then before to help out. The money still wasn't that much, but every little bit helped. With her good grades, she managed to get into KC academy fairly easily, while she did feel a little more home at since not everyone here was totally human. But overall, she keeps secret about what happened after her birth, and what she is. She doesn't like talking about, or thinking of the fact she's the last of her kind, which makes her feel somewhat lonely. She does come off as very girly at times, something many people underestimate. It also has made her a prime target for some of the guys to flirt with her, to which she occasionally gives them a whack on the head, just enough to sting not hurt, with her staff if sort of blowing them off doesn't work.
