Ren Toshaka was born on May 27, 16 years ago. His parents Mei and Kira, cared for him deeply and taught him right from wrong. Teaching him the traditional Japanese code of honor. The little he was able to understand at that age, was enough for his parents for the time being, at least until he was a little older than 5 years of age.

When Ren was 5 years old, his mother became pregnant with his younger sister, Kyrin. At first, Ren didn’t like the idea of being the big brother, but after her birth, Ren swore to protect her and took up his lessons again with his parents. This time intending to learn as much as possible.

After he swore to learn everything he possibly could, Ren became the top of his class with both perfect attendance and perfect grades. He almost never needed to study, but on rare occasions he would hit a snag and hit as many books on the subject as possible. He had quite a few friends, but he did have a few enemies in his school. Because of this, Ren took up practicing Aikido, a mostly defensive martial art. It allowed him to use his enemies’ kinetic energy against them, requiring no energy on his part at all.

At the age of 15, Ren decided to walk home from school instead of getting a ride home with his parents. He followed the usual route home, but noticed there was a lot more traffic than usual for that time of day. Ren stopped at an intersection and leaned against a lamp post. Not five minutes later, Ren saw his parents drive up in the car, with Kyrin in the back seat. She was 10 now. Ren waved and was about to walk when tragedy struck. His parents began to turn to the left when a speeding car crossed the intersection and smashed into his mother’s side of the car. The car was pushed into a building which crushed his father’s side of the car. Ren watched in horror. He knew his parents were probably dead, but his sisters’ side of the car seemed completely untouched. Ren ran across the street, sliding over the top of an oncoming car. He made it to the car and pryed the door open. To his relief, his sister seemed fine, though unconscious. He called the paramedics who arrived as quickly as possible. The fire department and the police arrived as well. They confirmed his fears that his parents had indeed died on impact. However, they also told him that his sister was paralyzed from the waist down. This sent Ren over the edge and he collapsed on the sidewalked and broke down. He was eventually coaxed into the ambulance with his sister. It was from this day that Ren swore to never let anyone get hurt ever again.

After his parents’ death, Ren and Kyrin went to live with his grandparents. Not long after they had moved in, Ren turned 16 and was eligible to attend a nearby Academy which had piqued his interest.

*3 Years Later*

After spending a chunk of his freshman year at the Academy, things began to calm down, and eventually, monster attacks became infrequent. So, between his studies, Ren continued to train extensively for the next 3 years. He is now in his 4th year at the Academy and is well respected, though there are still a few people who think he's an idiot due to his idealistic views. He also started going out at nights to watch the perimeter of hte Academy. He still somehow manages to get enough sleep before class the next day.

Ren possesses a very special family heirloom that was mailed to him within the first week at the Academy. It was left to him by his parents in their Will, but it took longer than normal to get it to him, which was a year. The crystal is one of many in the world that grants its owner special powers. However, this crystal appears to only work for Ren and any member of his family. It changes color depending on moral alignment, and with it, the powers it possesses. The crystal was a dull gray when Ren first received it, but upon holding it, it turned into a clear sapphire blue color, representing Good and Kindness. As Ren grows stronger, the crystal grants him access to new powers, that vary between offensive and defensive. He keeps it on him at all times. However, if someone takes it from him, it will return on its own, vanishing from the person who had it, and reappearing usually in Ren's hand or pocket. Further confirming its bond to his family alone. To anyone else, the crystal is unusable, and will turn a dull gray when in their possession

Unbeknownst to Ren, the crystal had a conciousness inside of it the entire time. However, it had chosen not to speak to him, and still hasn't, but is considering it at this point.
