The world is in a state of apocalyptic chaos. Much of the old system's have collapsed in light of this new environment. Populations have been greatly reduced and the world has become a dangerous place. Small markets sustain the cities with homemade products and crops grown locally. Gone are the days where most people worked behind a desk. Now, many own small businesses, farms, restaurants, or market stalls. Everything a person could need is found within the city. Rarely are supplies shipped anywhere.

The countries are at war with each other. The endless battles begun like any other but escalated with the discovery of certain texts by a previously unknown archaeologist. These ancient heavy tomes were bound in dark leather and written in an ink dark like dried blood. Their ancient language was difficult to decipher and their purpose unknown. Further study by the archaeologist uncovered other books on other continents, all in this same strange language. Finally, a final book was discovered. This book, known as the Demonex, was used to translate the others. The information in these books, became the catalyst for the existing conflicts between the countries.

The books contained long lists of names and instructions. The archaeologist followed these instructions, strange though they were. The being he brought forth was one previous unknown to the humans. However, the being and his kind knew much about the humans. The archaeologist had summoned forth a demon from another realm who was now tied to him until the end of his days. This creature was at his command, albeit unwillingly. Word spread of the findings and the warring countries confiscated the ancient books. However, they were not united as a set. For the countries were still fighting each other, now even more so for control over the priceless books. They wanted to use the demons against the other countries, to tip the war in their favor.

However, one vital book among them was lost. The Demonex was stolen and lost to the world. Yet, a few years later, information that it had contained began to emerge. If one searched hard enough, they could find fragments of writings from both the Demonex and the Books of Names. With enough time spent, matching fragments could be paired together, to create the instructions for a full summoning. And thus, the era of the Demon began.

Those who had summoned demons kept their success a secret, fearing retribution from the government. To this day, they keep this information secret. Certain underground organizations work to destroy any information regarding the Demonex and the Books of Names. They hunt the demons roaming the human realm as well. Somehow the delicate balance is kept, and life trudges on.
